Sunset, Pine Island

It sounds like a cliche, but it's true -- sunsets feed the soul

Tristate Sunset

The right moment

Peter and I went to visit a favorite spot and arrived just in time for a spectacular sunset. Under the I-84 bridge, there is a perfect view of our tristate area -- NY (on the left), NJ (in the distance) and PA (on the right). We can drive through 3 states just to pick up pizza and it's still hot when we get home!

Unexpected Beauty

Under Route 84...

...there is a beautiful view of the Delaware River

Peter, Paul and I went photographing this evening and visited a relatively new, favorite spot. Mostly I went for a walk while they photographed, but I did take a few photos of my own -- here are two I really liked. Click here, to see photos I posted from this location in the spring.

Sunset

Along the Delaware with High Point New Jersey in the distance

Look up! It's often beautiful!

On my way home from the supermarket tonight I couldn't help but stop and take some photos. It was just one of those nights that makes you happy to be alive. I photographed this same spot a few weeks ago at sunrise.

Trip to Newburyport

We had one evening to explore before the snow started falling and it was time to go

Sunset over Newburyport, MA

Peter is now represented by The Churchill Gallery in Newburyport, MA. We took a quick trip up there yesterday to deliver the first group of paintings and left early this morning to get home before the forecasted snow started to fall. We're both looking forward to spending more time in this part of the world.

Beautiful Skies

Black Dirt Region, Orange County NY

Double portrait

There were tremendous thunderstorms coming through our area yesterday. Peter had a feeling the storm would break right before sunset and wanted to go out photographing after dinner. We went to a favorite spot, the sky cleared and we had a good hour of magic -- purple clouds and golden trees -- changing every second until the sun went down. We also saw an amazing rainbow over the Delaware on the way there. I'll have to get a photo of it from Peter's files.

Sunset Trees

Trees line the road that passes Tizzano

I loved the wiggly dark forms of these trees against the plum sky and house lights.

Evening Walk, Tuscany

Perhaps the most beautiful walk in Tuscany

The owner of Tizzano, Guido Pasolini, was very generous to allow us access to all of his property. This road was close to the villa and we walked it often, photographing it at different times of day. What a beautiful place.

Winter Walk at Sunset

Fiesta's favorite past time, mulching sticks

This afternoon, I went for a walk beyond our property, across the ravine and onto our neighbor's land. There's a thick layer of ice on top of the snow that made every step an effort. Step. Crunch. Step. Crunch. Step. Step. Crunch. Our dog Fiesta is a real snow beast and even though she is getting older and sometimes moves like a table sliding across the floor, she always wants to go. She kept up with me despite the fact that she too broke through the snow every few steps.

As we crunched along, we sent the deer running. I'm sad that we disturbed them but it was exciting to see how quiet and graceful they move. They stood on the ridge and eyed us suspiciously. We scrambled up the slope following their tracks and sent them further into the woods.

It was a beautiful sunset and I took some photos, perhaps some images that will inspire Peter; weeds poking through the snow with the distant hills illuminated by the setting sun.

We received a nice email from one of Peter's former workshop students, Grace Hopwood. She wrote, "I just came in from taking pictures of a winter sunset over a farm at the top of my drive and I thought of you two. I have lived here for 22 years and have never painted a winter scene, and probably never would have if it weren't for Peter's gorgeous paintings."
