Fridge Pickles

Fridge Pickles in the making

I spent the day with visiting with an old college friend at her parent's house in Connecticut. They have the most amazing garden and they sent me home with an abundance of fresh vegetables and flowers. Along with the huge bag of cucumbers, her mother gave me a recipe for "Refrigerator Pickles". So easy to make and so delicious. Here's her recipe...

-- 7 cups of sliced cucumbers
-- 2 medium onions, sliced
-- 1 green (or red) pepper, chopped or sliced
-- 1 tablespoon salt
-- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
-- 2 cups sugar
-- 1 teaspoon celery seed

Mix together salt, vinegar, sugar and celery seed and add to the sliced vegetables. Refrigerate and stir 2 to 3 times the first day. Keep refrigerated in a covered jar. Yum!

Visit to the MOMA

Giacometti at the MOMA Sculpture garden

The new (not so new now) MOMA disappoints me every time I go. It has become more of a giant art warehouse and less of an intimate museum. There's no personality. It's just room after room with no consideration for the work and no point of reference from space to space. I still have my favorites I seek out but they do not seem the same in such gigantic sterile spaces.

We went to see the James Ensor show and that was quite good.

Yum, Pie!

My oh my, homemade blueberry and nectarine pie!

The bounty of summer fruits and vegetables is a glorious treat. I followed Martha's recipe for blueberry pie and added some local nectarines. It was most delicious!

Orozco Murals

I never forget a face

Peter and I went to see the Orozco Murals at Dartmouth College. What an amazing asset for the school to have. The historic murals are right in the library for students and the public to view. I had seen them several times as a child and the memory of them had stayed with me all of these years.
