All Aboard

Containers piled high aboard the President Truman

So many brightly colored containers... What's in them? Where are they going?

A container ship is a very colorful place -- even the empty swimming pool

My brother Steve is in the merchant marine and the container ship that he is currently on pulled into port in Staten Island for a few hours. It's hard to believe that it's been three years since we saw him last. He's on this ship for six months and then home to Washington state for a month or two and then out to sea again. What a life he leads! It was good to see him and hopefully it won't be so long before we see him again.

Sunrise Fizzle

Peter waiting and waiting and waiting for the sun to break

We had such fantastic light the day before, we decided to get up early to see if we could catch the sunrise lighting up a different set of barns at the Marie Zimmerman Estate. The sky was clear before we went to bed, but unfortunately clouds moved in and foiled our sunrise! No golden light for us but still beautiful and a nice walk -- maybe next time.

Illustration jobs are few and far between these days. This one I did for an article on MSN called Twenty Dollar Day Trips. Take a look.

A Trip to the Met

The Great Hall was a swirl of activity

We took Lisa back to the city and spent the afternoon at the Met. Peter and Lisa went off to discuss painting and I went in search of ancient sculpture and inspiration. It's been a long time since I wandered around the museum by myself and without a real plan. Fun was had by all.
