Hunting Dogs

Two headed dog?

Evidently it's the last 2 days of pheasant hunting season and the hunters are out in force. I am told that deer season starts next week. Ugh. I don't like how hunters, not all but many, think they own the woods.

Flaming Apples

Making more pies, Thanksgiving morning

Pie juice, aka brandy, and a little cinnamon make for a dramatic effect in the making of this apple pie.

Giving Thanks

Pecan and pumpkin pie, ready for eating

On this night before Thanksgiving I would like to give thanks for all of the people out there who love art -- those who appreciate and enjoy, those who buy and collect and for those who create every day and enrich the the world around us. Thank you all. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Birthday Cake

Yummmm, Peter is a domestic goddess

Every year Peter bakes me a cake from scratch on my birthday. It is an impressive and most delicious tradition.

Another Day

Peter contemplating one of his favorite fields

If you are familiar with Peter's work, then you will probably recognize these trees. This is mostly a winter motif for him, although he has studied it year round, usually late afternoon when the sun catches the trees or the field for a very dramatic moment. Here are a few paintings based on this one field: January Awakening, January Shade, Late Day Winter Meadow, Meadow Late Day December and Early Morning September. All of the paintings are similar and yet very different.

Peter's Opening

Peter and his band-aided finger make a point

Peter's show at the Travis Gallery opened this last saturday evening and was a big success. There was a large crowd and a number of paintings sold. We're all sure there will be many more sales by the end of the show. The work looks amazing and will be there through Thanksgiving weekend. If you can make it, you should definitely go. If you want to be a true patron of the arts, buy a painting! You will enjoy it every single day.

To see a few more photos I took at the opening, visit Peter's blog.

Graig, Peter's former student, friend and one of the few people who comment regularly
on my blog, couldn't keep from crying because the paintings are all so beautiful

Before Peter's Opening

Bare sycamore tree branches against the sky are magical

We're staying at a small inn along the Delaware in Lumberville, PA. Peter's opening at the Travis Gallery is tonight and we're both looking forward to it. I went out for a walk along the tow path at sunset to get a little fresh air and exercise before we leave. We've been in the car a lot these last two days exploring. This is a beautiful area.

Lebanon County, PA

A nosey cow

We were out exploring new areas today before heading over to Peter's show in New Hope tomorrow. It's always a challenge for Peter to take in a new area in a short amount of time, especially an area as large as the Hershey/Lancaster area. We spent the day trying to sort out the strip malls and housing developments from the open fields and farms. It took more time than we expected but we finally narrowed in on one area by mid afternoon. He was hoping for a cloudy day but it couldn't have been clearer, not a could in the sky. He had something specific in mind and was ready to call it a day when we came around the corner and there it was -- sunlight cutting across the top of a distant field -- a day of picture hunting well worth while.

Feather

Tempting hunters

The hunters are out hunting where Peter and I like to walk. I think they're looking for pheasant, also quail, turkey and grouse. It's a tough time to be a large bird! I found a feather along the path and stuck in my hair so I could have my hands free. I forgot it was there and Peter grabbed this shot of me.

Paintings Delivered

Peter photographing his favorite Sycamore along the Delaware River in Bucks County

We delivered Peter's show to the Travis Gallery in New Hope, PA today. I meant to take photos of us packing and unpacking the van so that people could see that half of being an artist is being a pack mule! Maybe it's best we keep that to ourselves.

The opening is this weekend and the show runs through Thanksgiving weekend. For more information, visit Peter's website www.peterfiore.com/travis.

Goldfish

Me with goldfish

We now have 3 goldfish -- props from Lisa's photo shoot this weekend that are now our pets. I think it's interesting that we cooked 2 live lobsters, a pound of live mussels, a pound of live clams along with shrimp and calamari, but felt compelled to save the lives of 3 goldfish. I'm surprised how much we are enjoying them, especially Peter.
